I am Carlos, and I work as a post-doc in the SEM group developing an iterative CRISPR-Cas based screening tool in Pseudomonas, with the aim of identifying targets for genome engineering and constructing improved strains for bioproduction.
CRISPR-Cas systems have attracted a great deal of attention since Cas9 was repurposed for custom genome cutting in 2012. One of the most wonderful things of these systems in nature, however, is their ability to "learn" from past infections and incorporate new targets. My project will develop an adaptable CRISPR-cas tool for automatized screening of essential genes, with the aim to understand gene essentiality in Pseudomonas under different growth conditions.
